Personal Training Budget for Language Training in the Furniture and Interior Design Industry

Do you work in the furniture and interior design sector and want to improve safety and communication on the shop floor? We have good news. Through the Furniture Expertise Centre (ECM), a substantial training budget is available for professional development, including language training. In this industry, a good command of the Dutch language is essential for understanding complex technical instructions and safety regulations, as well as ensuring smooth collaboration in the workshop. By utilizing this budget, you invest in your team’s craftsmanship and save significantly on training costs.

Who is the training budget for?

Companies and employees falling under the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) for the Furniture Industry and Interior Design are eligible for this subsidy. Please check if you meet the following conditions:

  • Employment: The subsidy is available for employees working for an employer who contributes to the sector’s social fund.
  • ECM Contribution: Your organization contributes to ECM. You can verify this with your HR department or directly via the ECM website.
  • Maximum Reimbursement: In 2026, the reimbursement covers a maximum of €1,000 per employee per year.

Why language training in furniture and interior design?

Craftsmanship starts with understanding the task at hand. Whether it involves reading technical drawings, operating CNC machinery, or coordinating on-site installations: a strong command of the language prevents errors and increases the quality of the final product. ECM encourages this broad employability by including language training in its eligible subsidy offerings.

Which training courses qualify?

The training must contribute to craftsmanship or sustainable employability within the sector. The Square Mile provides practical language training (such as Dutch on the shop floor) that directly aligns with the daily practice of furniture makers, machine woodworkers, and interior designers.

How do you apply for the budget?

Applying for the subsidy is easy via the ECM portal:

  1. Choose your training: Contact The Square Mile for a targeted training proposal that meets ECM requirements.
  2. Check the budget: Determine how many employees are still eligible to use their personal budget this year.
  3. Request approval: Submit the application through the ECM subsidy portal.

How do you claim the subsidy?

Once the language training is successfully completed, the subsidy will be processed according to the current regulations of the ECM. Ensure that you upload the necessary supporting documents, such as the invoice and a certificate or proof of participation, to the portal for final disbursement.
